World Microbiome Day

Sometimes we like to get sciencey at Kuxtal, and today is not the exception. Bear with me, this is the type of information we should all be consuming. Nothing better than knowing about our organisms and their environment, this is the basis of knowing how to properly take care and nourish our bodies. But don’t worry, we’re taking baby steps here, starting out with the smallest ones in the environment…microorganisms. I’ll tell you more about them, and the role they play in our households, so next time you host a dinner, you can play scientist and show off all your knowledge… kidding, but you can invite people to learn more about them, and join our community. Without further ado, June 27th is the World Microbiome Day, and we’re trying to do our part raising awareness with our loved ones, and, of course, you’re one of them.

Microorganisms can range from bacteria, to fungi, viruses, archae, etc. A community of these, creates a microbiome, and even though these are tiny and invisible to the naked eye, they are EVERYWHERE.There are different microbiomes, within different habitats, like plants, animals, water, etc. And as unpleasant as it may sound, our bodies are full of them, only that, not all of them are bad. In fact, they work for us to keep us healthy. The ones in our gut, are countable by trillions, and yet, only 50% of them has been studied, meaning that each microbiota is completely unique. Our gut’s buddies are the ones who are mostly in charge (80%) of our Immune System. Meaning that the healthier and stronger you keep your intestine, the better chances your body will have of fighting any disease. How, you may ask…by consuming probiotics, prebiotics and fermented foods. An easy way to get these in everyday, is through tablets, I mean, it’s a quick and easy way to start your day off right. Check out these GUDGUT ones we have https://kuxtalmarket.com/products/probiotico-gud-gud Or maybe even drink a refreshing Kombucha, or a nice yogurt plate for breakfast. Probiotics are an example of good bacteria that reside in our organism. And hear this, it’s amazing; we have a whole different nervous system in our gut…yes, i know, it’s crazy. Which is why having a balanced microbiota can help us regulate emotional processes such as stress, anxiety, depression, etc. Surprinsinly enough, people are working on “psychobiotics”, a new way to treat these disorders, straight from our gut.

These are just some of the many roles microbes play in our bodies, and some of the importances to keep it balanced. Remember everything our bodies lack of, or any excess it may have, it communicates it to us through sympotms. Listen to yours and fix it from the inside. You know what they say..you are what you eat. Happy microbiomae day…( i guess that’s what scientists say in labs).
