Busquemos soluciones a largo plazo.

Everyone at work is getting sick, quick, take a vitamin C pill to be safe…yeah, it’s a bit more complex than that. There are so many factors that influence our immune system’s health, not just diet (although this is a very important one), and especially not just a pill. Let’s explore a bit more about how to prevent illness and disease, ‘cause no one likes a runny nose, or a stomachache at work. And since we will always be exposed to germs and harmful microbes we should have a plan B, or a way to fight back and not let them affect us. Believe me, taking a citrus shot when you start to get any symptoms, can only do so much. LEt’s look for long-term solutions.

We have two types of immunity, innate, and acquired. Innate is basically the first-line defence of our body, like our skin, our sweat, mucus or stomach acid. And the acquired, is a system, that you can look at it as programming, it receives unknown cells, learns about them, and fights them. And it remembers them, so if they ever enter again, it knows how to respond. Now, there are more things that trigger our system than just microbes. Antigens are foreign substances that our body labels as harmful and it fights them. Inflammation is a way of our immune system that helps flush out whatever is harming us. Autoimmune disorders are basically when your immune system gets confused and attacks good and healthy cells. Finally, immunodeficiency disorders, occur when they completely disable the immune system, like AIDS or leukaemia. Now, what other factors influence our immunity? Well, old-age is clearly one of them, environmental toxins, like pollution or alcohol, excess weight, poor diet, chronic disease, mental stress, lack of sleep. Remember we once talked about how the immune system’s biggest strength, is in out gut, and if you keep your gut healthy, there’s little chance you’ll get sick often. Eating enough nutrients is essential for your health and functioning. So eating clean, and aiding with supplements leads to a happy, healthy body. A few tips could be:

  1. Eat whole fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, whole grains, and drink LOTS of water.
  2. Aid with multivitamins or supplements
  3. Don’t smoke, or stop it if you do
  4. Drink alcohol in moderation
  5. Exercise
  6. Sleep 7-9 hours daily
  7. Manage stress
  8. Wash your hands!

I also thought it would be important for me to mention, that if you do get sick, and struggle with maybe a bit of guilt for feeling bad and not being able to do anything, relax! Your body need the rest, you need the rest, it’s fine if you need a couple days to get back to your routine. Don’t push it or it will last longer, and you’ll feel worse, let yourself heal to come back stronger. If you want to check out some supplements or vitamins go to our web page.
