The dirty dozen

  1. Fresas
  2. Espinacas
  3. Col rizada, berza y mostaza
  4. Nectarinas
  5. Manzanas
  6. Uvas
  7. Cerezas
  8. Duraznos
  9. Peras
  10. Pimientos morrones y picantes
  11. Apio

  2. Maíz dulce
  3. Piña
  4. Cebollas
  5. Papaya
  6. Guisantes dulces
  7. Berenjena
  8. Espárragos
  9. Brócoli
  10. Col
  11. Kiwi

The dirty dozen

Pesticides are used to destroy weeds and unwanted vegetation, controlling a variety of insects, mold or bacteria. They can harm our organism terribly, they can damage the nervous system, the reproductive system, and the endocrine system. So we should stay away from these at all costs. And even though one apple is not gonna kill you, these toxins can build up in your body and can be detrimental to your overall health, or if you’re pregnant, to your baby. They can make their way into a water source and kill the fish in there, and throw the whole ecosystem off balance. It can also seep into the soil and contaminate the groundwater lots of people depend on. Or even turn into a gas, travel through the air and affect other species.

Even though you wash and disinfect fruit, if it’s not organic, it most likely has traces of pesticides in it. Here are the 12 most contaminated fruits and vegetables, which you should always strive for organic, according to the Environmental Working group:

  1. Strawberries
  2. Spinach
  3. Kale, collard, and mustard greens
  4. Nectarines
  5. Apples
  6. Grapes
  7. Cherries
  8. Peaches
  9. Pears
  10. Bell and hot peppers
  11. Celery
  12. Tomatoes

But we also have a cleanest list:

  1. Avocados
  2. Sweet corn
  3. Pineapple
  4. Onions
  5. Papaya
  6. Sweet peas
  7. Eggplant
  8. Asparagus
  9. Broccoli
  10. Cabbage
  11. Kiwi
  12. Cauliflower

Even though it is recommend to go all organic, sometimes it’s not possible, so this list is just a guide to make healthier choices. It helps your health, and the one from people around you, as well as the environment and the species in it.
