Rice paper dumplings

Who said gluten free? I’ve luckily never struggled with gluten, but I’ve realized a lot of people around me who I care about do. So making these recipes for dinner makes them feel welcome and appreciated. So even if, like me, you have no issues with gluten, try making these as a meal for your loved ones, and it’s so good that even if they don’t realize, they’ll just love it.

Ingredients

For dumplings

  • 400g firm tofu
  • 5 mushrooms
  • 1/2 carrot
  • 1/2 onion
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1/2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper
  • 12 sheets rice paper
  • 3 tsp olive oil

For sauce

  • 4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 chiles serrano

How to make?

Dice the carrot, onion and mushrooms. Press your tofu for a few seconds and then crumble it into small pieces. Toss it in a bowl and set it aside. In a pan, add olive oil and sauté the carrot, onion, and mushrooms. Add soy sauce and let the moisture evaporate. Remove for heat and add them with the tofu. Add the hoisin sauce, garlic powder and pepper. Mix and adjust seasoning. Wet your rice paper and put it on a flat surface. Add the bowl mixture un the middle and close from the sides to form a little square. Each dumpling needs 2 rice papers in order not to break during frying. Repeat this with all the filling. Heat up more olive oil in a pan and add the dumplings, fry them until golden on each side. Make the sauce by grilling the peppers with only heat, chopping them up and add them to the soy sauce, Serve and enjoy together.

I salivated as I wrote this. And I ate it a few days ago. I’m definitely making this again tonight. Let me know if you do too. It’s filling and delicious, have a nice Japanese night.
