5 hábitos diarios para ayudar a tu cuerpo a desintoxicarse

~ English Below ~

5 daily habits to help your body detox

We’re talking detox folks but don’t worry. We won’t be recommending juice cleanse or crazy diets where you can have water and maybe eating a few almonds a day. The thing about these methods, they probably do work but you’ll probably just fall back into your old habits at the end of the day.

Luckily, we don’t need to take drastic measures to detox our bodies, We can aid our body to detox all the unwanted stuff with small daily habits.

So what is a detox anyway? Detoxification is the process of removing harmful things that we’ve consumed, ingested or been in contact with from our body. Just think about it. Most of the food we are eating are either sprayed with pesticides and herbicides, filled with conservatives and chemicals or processed to the point that they barely contain nutrition. Even the creams we put on our skin, the shampoo you use. The all have consequences. Skin is the largest organ in the human body, it’s responsable for keeping us warm or cool, protecting us from the sun and harmful chemicals. It also absorbs whatever you put on it, even the chemicals in the air and water. So think wisely and take the time to read the ingredients on your food and personal care packages.

Remember that small daily habits result in massive change. So stick with me.

WATER

WAIT, don’t reach for that cup of coffee first thing in the morning. Grab a glass or 2 of water before anything else. Staying hydrated is so important, we are made of 70% of water and we need it to live. Drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning helps hydrate your body, it stimulates your bowels, strengthens the immune system and rids your body of unwanted toxins. During the night your body repairs itself and removes all the unwanted toxins. Water first thing in the morning will flush them out.

Pro tip: Add lemon to your water for extra detoxing.

EXERCISE

We’ve been taught since kindergarten that we need to move our bodies. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to know that exercise is good for you. It is mood boosting, it delivers oxygen to your to your tissues to improve your cardiovascular system, it helps you maintain a healthy weight, it’s good for your joints and bones and, it helps you detox.

This includes everyday moderate activities like walking, biking and swimming. Let me tell you a little secret, you don’t actually sweat out toxins. Sure some toxins are sweat out, but it’s really your liver and kidney that do that heavy lifting and remove them through urine and bowel movements.

Daily movement helps reduce inflammation.  Chronic inflammation causes the body to produce extra cells that can actually harm good tissues, leading to more waste. The body then has more waste than it knows what to do with and blocking the flow. Physical activity reduces the inflammation and helps stimulate the lymphatic system which then processes fluids and sends toxins to the kidneys and liver to properly dispose of them.

GREEN GREEN GREEN

Sorry, that was probably a bit generic… I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase “eat your greens”, we’re talking about vegetables today. Green vegetables contain chlorophyll. You’ve heard about it, it’s trending lately. This beautiful, tiny molecule helps the body remove environmental toxins like heavy metals, herbicides, and pesticides from the body. They’re full of fibre, which we talked about the importance of fibre in our hormone balancing blog. Fibre helps promote healthy bowel movements which is how to body removes toxins. Green Vegetables, especially leafy greens are filled with super powered antioxidants, which brings us to out next point.

ANTIOXIDANTS

Antioxidants help protect your body from toxins in the first place. They’re an invisible barrier that try to stop toxins from entering your body. Antioxidants are the cancer fighting super hero. They break down the free radicals which cause cancer. Just imagine a battle going on inside your body, free radicals are the bad guy and antioxidants, the super hero who shows up to save the day. Choosing foods high in antioxidants with set you up for success. Some of my favorites are:

  • Beets
  • Brocoli
  • Berries (Blackberry, Blueberry, Raspberry, Acai)
  • Cabbage
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Green Tea
  • Lemon
  • Kale or Spinach
  • Sweet Potato
  • Quinoa or Brown Rice

LIMIT ALCOHOL

Now that we’ve implemented these new habits, our blood is flowing and we’ve reduced the toxins in our body. You should think twice about that glass of wine or whiskey.

Alcohol is…. toxic. According to recent studies there is no safe amount of alcohol. Alcohol weakens the immune system and is a carcinogenic (that means it causes cancer). Let’s break it down, the two toxins in alcohol that the body needs to work overtime to remove are acetaldehyde and acetic acid. Acetaldehyde is created by oxidizing ethanol.

Doesn’t matter what you drink, alcohol is dangerous to the body. The liver does all the heavy lifting to remove alcohol from our system and basically all the work we do to detox and remove harmful chemicals from our bodies is wasted when we choose to ingest alcohol.
